In the marketing community, the organisation that goes to into putting on a trade show is often compared to that of arranging a wedding. Months of preparation, invites to be sent, a huge list of suppliers to juggle, speeches to write, catering to be booked – the list seems endless. All those weeks of planning and late nights in the office came to fruition last week at the Business Travel Show and Travel Technology Europe at London’s Olympia – a packed two day industry event for sourcing, learning and networking. This year’s show was the largest ever, attracting the highest ever visitor numbers. It witnessed Amadeus launching not one but three ground-breaking new technology solutions into the market. Travel professionals from all across Europe were introduced to Selling Platform Connect, the first cloud-based GDS booking platform. Amadeus cytric Travel & Expense for corporations, a fully integrated T&E solution, was also unveiled along with our new virtual card payment solution, B2B Wallet.
The big difference is that wedding plans are focused on the happy couple; exhibitions are much more of a team effort. And what teamwork it was. Everything came together like a well-orchestrated symphony – from our greeters welcoming people to the solution experts demonstrating the latest innovations to curious travel professionals as well as the support staff keeping everything running like clockwork. Experts from the fields of mobile, eCommerce and big data presented a packed agenda of tech talks in the Discovery Zone. Perhaps one similarity with weddings was the popular drinks reception that was standing room only – exhibitions can be thirsty work!
Visitors were impressed with how the stand looked and it was the launch-pad for a new passion inspired marketing campaign for Selling Platform Connect. This recognises that the common feature of successful businesses is passion. It tells the stories of passionate and entrepreneurial people from outside the industry as a metaphor for how Amadeus technology can help you to achieve success. It was a hectic but very productive few days away from the office and to quote the new campaign, the difference truly was passion.
