Please allow me to introduce myself as the Managing Director for Amadeus UK & Ireland taking over from Diane Bouzebiba. As some of you know, I am new to Amadeus, but I am not new to travel. I joined Amadeus from American Express Global Business Travel where I ran the UK and Swiss businesses. I originally qualified in IT and having spent many years working internationally in commercial roles in diverse industries, I was excited about the opportunity of returning to the Technology space in an industry that I really enjoyed working in.
My first 30 days
It’s been a whirlwind 30 days so far and I have divided my time between getting to know the talented and passionate Amadeus people in the UK & Ireland and meeting customers. It was a pleasure to meet a number of you at recent industry and Amadeus hosted events including the Institute of Travel and Tourism and Guild of Travel Management Companies’ annual overseas conferences.
One of the reasons I got into commercial leadership was the “ringside seat” it gave me to understand the challenges that businesses face and the strategies they deploy to overcome them and grow. Meeting you provides me the opportunity to be inspired by your ingenuity!
At the ITT, I had some interesting conversations about how online travel is increasingly about consumer behaviour as it is about data and search technologies. I wanted to share with you a recent blog post that struck a chord on the emergence of the Data Scientist.
At the GTMC, there was a lot of debate and discussion around Lufthansa’s recent distribution proposal, here is an interesting response from the Institute of Travel Management on this topic.
How I see my role and what it means for you
So what can you expect from me? I see my role as being one of championing the business interests of our customers within Amadeus and the travel ecosystem so we may deliver on our vision of shaping the future of travel through you. I know that Diane really appreciated your open and honest input on key topics affecting our industry, both locally and beyond our shores. I am reminded of a quote from the American literary classic To Kill A Mockingbird – “You can never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view”. Therefore, I am keen to continue such a frank exchange with yourselves because these offer precious insights into your point of view.
Success for us here in Amadeus UK & Ireland is enabling your business success. So I look forward to getting to know you and working with you in the coming months.
