Amadeus is present in thousands of communities around the world including the UK & Ireland. As a company, one way we support these communities is by fulfilling our role as a good corporate citizen and help them move towards a sustainable future. Another way is by supporting our employees who bring their talents, enthusiasm and commitment to enhance the lives of those living in their community.

On June 18 at beautiful Tilgate park in Crawley, not far from the Amadeus offices at Gatwick airport, nineteen Amadeus Angels (also known as Amadeus UK employees) are taking part in a race. This is a race against time. It is a race to find a cure for cancer.
Race for Life is the UK’s largest women-only fundraising event organised by Cancer Research UK and there are almost 300 Race for Life events around the UK each year. These women-only fundraising events involve running, jogging, walking, skipping or dancing a 5-kilometre course and raising sponsorship money to help find a cure for some 200 types of cancer.
This year, Race for Life celebrates its 20th anniversary. Since it began in 1994, six million participants across the UK have raised over GBP493 million.
A couple of months ago, during a fairly crazy few minutes, a few of us at Amadeus UK decided it would be a good idea to take part as a team and raise money for this very important cause. It seems that nowadays, pretty much everyone knows someone who has experience of dealing with cancer. Although it was initially a spur of the moment thing, we have all really embraced the idea and are looking forward to achieving something together. So we didn’t have to twist too many arms to get to the point where we have 19 Amadeus Angels taking part.
Like all winning athletes, we’re leaving nothing to chance. During lunchtime breaks and on the weekend you’ll find us running, walking or staggering in preparation for the big event. We’ve already come so far, battling everything from creaking bones to the wonderful English weather!
Even though it’s called Race for Life, it’s not about who comes first; it’s about taking part, having fun and raising as much money as we can. We have set up a fundraising page at http://www.justgiving.com/the-amadeus-angels and we aim to raise GBP1,000 if possible.
To make it even easier, we have set up a Mobile SMS code – simply text AMUK88 plus your choice of donation amount (£1, £5, £10, £15 etc.) to 70070.
As a group, we really hope that our contribution will make a small difference in the battle to beat cancer.
